Frequently asked questions about document legalisation

What is the difference between apostille and legalisation?
Apostille is used for countries that have acceded to the Hague Convention and is issued by Notarius Publicus. Legalisation is required for countries outside the Hague Convention and is done via the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and/or the respective country's embassy in Sweden.
Do the documents need to be translated before legalisation?
It depends on the receiving country. In many cases an authorised translation of the documents is required before they can be legalised. Contact us and we'll help you find out what applies to your country.
How long does it take to legalise a document?
Processing time varies depending on the type of legalisation. Apostille via Notarius Publicus can often be arranged within a few days. Legalisation via the Ministry for Foreign Affairs or embassy may take longer. Contact us for an estimate.
Can I send documents by post?
Yes, we accept documents by post from all over Sweden. When the legalisation is complete we send your documents back to you.
