Correct path

eVisitor or Visitor visa?

eVisitor (subclass 651) is an electronic visa for tourism and business up to 3 months per visit, valid for 12 months. It is enough for most Swedes. But if you have been denied entry before, have certain health issues or will stay longer, a Visitor visa (subclass 600) is required.

Overview

How it works for Australia

Swedish citizens can travel to Australia with an eVisitor (subclass 651) for tourism and business up to 3 months per visit. The eVisitor is electronic and linked to your passport number. For longer stays, work, studies or if you do not qualify for an eVisitor, a Visitor visa (subclass 600) or another visa type is required. Australian immigration authorities are strict about health requirements, character requirements and financial support. VIZA reviews your situation before you apply to avoid unnecessary refusals.

When needed

When do Swedes need a visa for Australia?

eVisitor is enough for most, but a visa is required in these situations:

  • You will stay longer than 3 months per visit
  • You will work or conduct business in Australia
  • You will study at an Australian university or college
  • You have been denied entry to Australia before
  • You have certain health issues or character notes
  • You will work as maritime crew on routes to Australia

From order to approved Australia visa

The usual chain from review to return. Expand a step if you want more detail.

  1. 1 Order and describe your situation

Tell us about your trip, your health and your background. We tell you immediately if eVisitor is enough or if a Visitor visa is required.

  2. 2 We review your eligibility

We check if you qualify for eVisitor based on your answers. Wrong answers can lead to refusal or entry ban.

  3. 3 We apply online for you

For eVisitor and Visitor visa we apply online via ImmiAccount. We fill in all details correctly.

  4. 4 Health check if needed

For certain visa types a health check with an approved doctor is required. We book the appointment and guide you.

  5. 5 Confirmation and follow-up

eVisitor comes by email. The Visitor visa is placed electronically in the passport. We follow up until everything is ready.

Important

eVisitor is not a visa

eVisitor (subclass 651) is an electronic travel authorization, not a traditional visa. It is linked electronically to your passport number. Even with an approved eVisitor, the border officer can deny entry if you do not meet the conditions. A Visitor visa gives stronger rights but requires more documentation.

Translation, timing and embassy

Is English translation needed?

For eVisitor or the visa application, translation of Swedish documents is normally not required. The application is filled in English. The invitation or admission letter should be in English. If you have Swedish documents to be used in Australia after entry (e.g. for work or studies), authorized translation may be needed separately.

Timeline for an Australia visa

eVisitor is usually approved same day or next day. Visitor visa takes 2 to 6 weeks. Working Holiday takes 2 to 4 weeks. Australian authorities always determine the final processing time. The total is affected by:

  • whether you qualify for eVisitor or need a Visitor visa
  • whether a health check is required
  • whether a character assessment is required
  • queue at Australian immigration authorities
  • whether the application is supplemented
  • post for passport (if needed)
