A China visa is required for Swedish citizens. The application is made before departure and applies whether you are travelling as a tourist, for business or studies.

In short, you need a valid passport, photo and travel or accommodation documents. For business or visiting visas an invitation is usually required. The Chinese authorities are thorough, so it is important that all documents meet the requirements exactly.

Do I need a visa for China?
Yes, Swedish citizens need a visa to travel to China. This applies whether you are travelling as a tourist, for business or work. You must apply for a visa before you travel. There is no visa on arrival for Swedish citizens (with the exception of transit in certain cities).

How does the application process work?
The process is straightforward but needs to be done correctly. You start by choosing the right visa type and filling in your basic details. You then upload a passport copy, photo and the documents relevant to your visa type. We review everything before the application is submitted, and if anything is missing we contact you directly. Once everything is complete we submit the application to the authority and you receive regular updates.
What is required for tourist visa (L)?
For a tourist visa you need a valid passport and a copy of the ID page, a passport photo meeting China's requirements (white background), and travel documentation. This typically means confirmation of return flights and hotel booking, plus a simple itinerary showing where you are going and when. The physical passport normally needs to be submitted as part of the application, so make sure you have enough time before departure.
What is required for business visa (M)?
For a business visa you need a valid passport and passport photo, plus a formal invitation letter from a company in China. The invitation should normally describe the purpose of the visit, the company's contact details and your personal information. You will also need to provide travel details and brief information about the company you are visiting. The physical passport is also submitted as part of this application.
What is required for visiting visa (Q/S)?
A visiting visa requires a valid passport and passport photo, along with an invitation letter from the person you are visiting in China. The invitation must be accompanied by a copy of the host's Chinese ID or residence permit. For family visits, documents proving the relationship are also often required, such as a family certificate or other official documentation.
What is required for work visa (Z)?
A work visa requires a valid passport and passport photo, along with a job offer from an employer in China. You will normally also need a work permit or government approval that your employer helps arrange. In some cases additional documents are required, such as educational certificates or other materials according to the employer's instructions.
