Overview

How it works for Japan

Swedish citizens can travel to Japan without a visa for up to 90 days, but Visit Japan Web (VJW) is mandatory for everyone entering. VJW is a digital entry and customs registration system that replaced paper forms. For work, studies, working holiday or longer stays, a visa is required. Japan is known for its efficient but strict entry process. VIZA helps you with both VJW and visa, so you avoid problems at the border.

When needed

When do Swedes need VJW or a visa for Japan?

VJW is always required. A visa is required in these situations:

  • You will work or conduct business in Japan
  • You will study at a Japanese university or language school
  • You have a working holiday visa and will work part-time
  • You will stay longer than 90 days
  • You will get married or register a partnership in Japan
  • You will do an internship or volunteer work

Choose VJW or visa and upload passport copy. We tell you immediately if something is missing.

  2. 2 We review your details

We check that the passport is valid, that the address in Japan is correct and that everything is filled in according to Japanese authority requirements.

  3. 3 We apply for VJW or visa

For VJW we register you online. For a visa we prepare all documents and submit at the Japanese Embassy.

  4. 4 QR codes or visa in passport

VJW generates QR codes for entry and customs control. The visa is placed in the passport after processing.

  5. 5 Confirmation before departure

We notify you when everything is ready. For VJW you should have the QR codes available at entry.

Important

Visit Japan Web is not a visa

Visit Japan Web (VJW) is a mandatory digital entry and customs registration system, not a visa. It is required for all arrivals, even those traveling visa-free. Without a completed VJW you can be delayed or denied entry. We make sure your VJW is correctly filled in.
