Correct path

The right path for Bangladesh

NBR, UGC and a Union Parishad in Dhaka, Chattogram or Sylhet want proof the Swedish original is genuine. Apostille is issued by Notarius Publicus in Sweden. Forms are in Bengali in Bengali script. An e-visa via visa.gov.bd is entry, not a stamp on the document. The embassy in Stockholm handles passports and consular work, not apostille. Bangladesh e-Apostille covers Bangladeshi originals, not Swedish ones.

Overview

How it works for Bangladesh

Civil status in Bangladesh sits with a Union Parishad in rural areas and a City Corporation in cities. NID is issued via NIDW and the Election Commission. NBR wants a TIN in e-TIN. UGC compares a Swedish degree. RAJUK takes land in Dhaka, RJSC takes companies. Forms are in Bengali in Bengali script; Hindi in Devanagari, Urdu in Nastaliq and English-only rarely suffice on originals. Because Bangladesh has been in the Hague Convention since 30 March 2025, apostille via Notarius Publicus is enough. E-Apostille at mofa-servicedirectory.apostille.mygov.bd covers documents issued in Bangladesh, not Swedish extracts. This is the document chain, not a Machine Readable Visa.

When needed

When do Bangladeshi recipients want apostille?

The request comes from NBR, UGC, a Union Parishad, RAJUK or a notary. Typical situations:

  • Birth or marriage certificate must enter a Union Parishad or City Corporation after a move to Dhaka
  • TIN papers toward NBR in e-TIN – not a passport alone
  • Recognition of a Swedish degree via UGC, not a loose PDF
  • Land purchase – extracts for RAJUK in Dhaka or AC Land in Chattogram
  • Company papers for RJSC in Dhaka
  • Ammoktarnama for an agent before a notary in Sylhet

How a Swedish original reaches Bangladesh

The usual chain from review to return. Collapse a step if you want less.

  1. 1 Find out who the recipient is

NBR, UGC, a Union Parishad or RAJUK sends a checklist. Ask us if you are unsure what is required. An e-visa is not on that list.

  2. 2 Order the right Swedish original

Skatteverket, a court or a school issues the document. Copies rarely suffice for RAJUK or a purchase toward RJSC.

  3. 3 Translate into Bengali if needed

A Union Parishad and most UGC files want authorized Bengali in Bengali script. Kammarkollegiet.

  4. 4 Notarise an ammoktarnama before apostille

If a notary in Dhaka or Chattogram is to act for you, the power of attorney must be attested by Notarius Publicus in Sweden first.

  5. 5 Apostille and tracked return

Notarius Publicus adds the apostille. You get the original (and the translation) back, ready for filing in Bangladesh.

Why Bengali is usually needed

NBR and UGC rarely accept unprocessed Swedish. Authorized Bengali from a Kammarkollegiet translator is its own step, not Hindi. From SEK 1,495 for a standard document. Translation plus apostille from SEK 1,895.

Timeline for NBR, UGC or a Union Parishad

Apostille usually takes a few business days. Add time for Bengali and any notarisation. The total depends on:

  • whether the ammoktarnama must be notarised first
  • whether authorized Bengali must run in parallel
  • processing at Notarius Publicus
  • the UGC queue toward a degree
Bangladesh Embassy vs apostille

  • Apostille for ordinary legalisation to Bangladesh
  • Notarisation of an ammoktarnama before apostille
  • Authorized Bengali translation
  • Notarius Publicus for Swedish public documents

FAQ

Can the embassy in Stockholm apostille for me?
No. Bangladesh takes apostille via Notarius Publicus in Sweden since 30 March 2025. The embassy handles passports and consular work, not that stamp for NBR or UGC.
Do I need Hindi or Urdu instead of Bengali?
No. Those are separate Kammarkollegiet authorizations. NBR and UGC want Bengali in Bengali script, not Hindi in Devanagari and not Urdu in Nastaliq.
Is an e-visa enough as a document stamp?
No. A Machine Readable Visa via visa.gov.bd is entry. NBR, UGC and a Union Parishad want apostille on the document. We do not sell a Bangladesh visa here.
