Correct path

The right path for Brazil

Swedish originals are apostilled by Notarius Publicus. Cartórios authorised by CNJ put apostila de Haia on Brazilian documents. The embassy in Stockholm authenticates copies of Brazilian papers, not Swedish ones. Portuguese toward a cartório and Receita: authorized translation from Kammarkollegiet. Some cartórios later ask for tradução juramentada done in Brazil. CRNM and VITEM are migration, not legalisation.

Overview

How it works for Brazil

CPF is the number Receita Federal puts on the person. CNPJ is the company’s, usually via the state Junta Comercial. A certidão de nascimento does not come from there. A cartório is a privately run public function that CNJ authorises, not a municipal counter. A foreign degree is revalidated against a public university through the Carolina Bori platform; there is no national ENIC office that takes the file. Property goes to a cartório de imóveis, insurance to INSS. Swedish originals are apostilled by Notarius Publicus. Brazilian originals get apostila de Haia at a CNJ-authorised cartório. The embassy in Stockholm authenticates copies of Brazilian papers, not Swedish ones. Portuguese on the form comes from Kammarkollegiet; some cartórios later want tradução juramentada done in Brazil. CRNM is the residence card, not the stamp on the document.

When needed

When does a cartório or Receita require apostille?

The request is in the email from the cartório, Receita or the university. Typical files:

  • A cartório in São Paulo must enter a Swedish marriage certificate into RCPN
  • Receita Federal must issue CPF against identity papers
  • A public university must revalidate a degree via Carolina Bori
  • A cartório de imóveis must register a purchase in Rio or Brasília
  • Junta Comercial must issue CNPJ against a Swedish company extract
  • A procuração so someone else can sign at the cartório

CPF at Receita or a certidão at the cartório

The usual chain from review to return. Collapse a step if you want less.

  1. 1 Cartório, Receita or Carolina Bori?

RCPN goes to a cartório de registro civil. CPF to Receita Federal. Degree revalidation to a university via Carolina Bori. CRNM does not take apostille as a substitute for residence.

  2. 2 Order the original in Sweden

A personal extract from Skatteverket, a diploma from the university, a company extract from Bolagsverket. A cartório and Receita rarely take a screenshot.

  3. 3 Portuguese – Kammarkollegiet here, juramentada sometimes there

Authorized Portuguese from Kammarkollegiet. Some cartórios also want tradução juramentada done in Brazil. Ask the recipient before you assume the Kammarkollegiet text alone will suffice.

  4. 4 A procuração is attested in Sweden

If someone in São Paulo is to sign for you, Notarius Publicus attests the procuração here. A Brazilian cartório de notas does not stamp that Swedish power of attorney.

  5. 5 Apostille here, a CNJ cartório there

Notarius Publicus puts apostille on Swedish papers. CNJ-authorised cartórios put apostila on Brazilian originals. You send to the cartório, Receita or the university.

Important

Apostille for Brazil

The Hague Convention has covered Brazil since 2016. Notarius Publicus apostilles Swedish public documents. A CNJ cartório puts apostila on Brazilian ones. From SEK 1,595 in Basic.

Typical Brazil cases we see

Expand a case to see documents, route and timing.

Portuguese toward a cartório – and juramentada as an extra step

A cartório and Receita rarely take unprocessed Swedish. Authorized Portuguese from Kammarkollegiet from SEK 1,495. Translation plus apostille from SEK 1,895. Tradução juramentada in Brazil is a separate step if the cartório asks for it.

Time toward a cartório and Carolina Bori

Apostille usually takes a few business days. Revalidação via the university takes longer than the stamp. Also allow for:

  • a procuração that must be attested before a cartório de notas acts
  • Portuguese here and possible juramentada in Brazil
  • the Carolina Bori queue toward degree revalidation
  • processing at Notarius Publicus
The embassy authenticates Brazilian copies

The consular section authenticates copies of Brazilian documents. Apostille for a cartório, CPF and CNPJ is done by Notarius Publicus. CRNM is residence.

  • Apostille on Swedish originals for Brazil
  • Attestation of a procuração before apostille
  • Authorized Portuguese toward a cartório and Receita
  • Notarius Publicus – not a CNJ cartório – for Swedish papers

FAQ

Can the embassy in Stockholm apostille for me?
Not Swedish originals. They authenticate copies of Brazilian documents. Apostille for a cartório, Receita and Carolina Bori is done by Notarius Publicus. Brazilian originals are apostilled at a CNJ-authorised cartório.
Is Kammarkollegiet Portuguese enough, or do I need juramentada in Brazil?
Many recipients take authorized Portuguese from Kammarkollegiet plus apostille. Some cartórios also want tradução juramentada done in Brazil. Ask the cartório before you assume you can skip that step.
Is CRNM enough instead of apostille?
No. CRNM and VITEM are migration. A cartório, Receita and the university want apostille on the document.
