Lithuanian authorities think in registers: Gyventojų registras (via Registrų centras) for population records, VMI for tax and asmens kodas, SKVC for foreign degrees, Registrų centras when buying a flat in Vilnius or Klaipėda. Forms are in Lithuanian; Polish, Latvian and English rarely suffice on originals. We apostille Swedish originals via Notarius Publicus and translate with Kammarkollegiet-authorized Lithuanian. A document issued in Lithuania is apostilled there, not by us. This is the document chain, not a visa or residence permit.

How a Swedish original reaches Lithuania

1 Find out who the recipient is

Gyventojų registras, VMI, SKVC or Registrų centras sends a checklist. The embassy on Grevgatan is rarely on it.
2 Order the right Swedish original

Skatteverket, a court or a school issues the paper. Copies rarely suffice for SKVC or a property purchase.
3 Translate into Lithuanian if needed

SKVC and most savivaldybės want authorized Lithuanian. Kammarkollegiet.
4 Notarise powers of attorney before apostille

If a notaras in Vilnius or Klaipėda is to act for you, the power of attorney must be attested by Notarius Publicus in Sweden first.
5 Apostille and tracked return

Notarius Publicus adds the apostille. You get the original (and translation) back, ready for submission in Lithuania.

Lithuania accepts Hague apostille on Swedish originals. Basic from SEK 1,595 per document. Embassy legalisation via the MFA is not required for VMI, SKVC or Gyventojų registras.

Can the embassy on Grevgatan apostille for me?

No. They help Lithuanian citizens with passports and consular work. Apostille on Swedish originals is done by Notarius Publicus in Sweden.

Do I need Latvian or Polish instead of Lithuanian?

No. Lithuanian, Latvian and Polish are separate Kammarkollegiet authorizations. VMI and SKVC want Lithuanian.

I already have an apostille – is English enough?

Rarely. VMI and SKVC read Lithuanian. Apostille proves authenticity; translation makes the content readable.
