Embassy chain – apostille is not enough for NRC

Myanmar is outside the Hague Convention. For Swedish originals: notarisation when needed, MFA, then a stamp at the Embassy of Myanmar in London, which is accredited to Sweden. Apostille does not replace that chain toward NRC. Forms are in Burmese in Myanmar script.

How it works for Myanmar

Myanmar authorities think in NRC: the identity card against the Ministry of Immigration, household list Form 10 against township GAD, tax against IRD at township level, DHE and the Ministry of Education for foreign degrees, DALMS and GAD for land, DICA and MyCO for companies. Forms are in Burmese in Myanmar script; Thai, Chinese and Mongolian are different Kammarkollegiet authorizations. We run notarisation when needed, MFA and the Embassy of Myanmar in London, and translate with Kammarkollegiet-authorized Burmese. A document issued in Myanmar is legalised there – via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Yangon. This is the document chain, not an e-visa for entry.

The contact usually comes from NRC, GAD, DHE, DICA or a notary – not from the e-visa queue:

The request comes from NRC, GAD, DHE or DICA. Apostille and an e-visa are not on that list.
2 Burmese, not Thai

The recipient reads Burmese in Myanmar script. Thai and Chinese are different Kammarkollegiet languages. Standard documents at list price; longer texts after a scan.
3 Aana hlwe sa for an agent in Yangon

An agent before a notary in Yangon or Mandalay wants an attested power of attorney before MFA. Notarius Publicus first.
4 MFA and the Myanmar embassy in London

The embassy only stamps the chain MFA has already started. No apostille as a substitute. Myanmar has no embassy in Stockholm.

Why Burmese is usually needed

NRC, DHE and many GAD counters rarely accept unprocessed Swedish. Authorized Burmese from a Kammarkollegiet translator is its own step, not Thai. From SEK 1,495 for a standard document. Translation plus legalisation from SEK 3,495.

The embassy in London stamps the chain MFA has already started. It does not replace Notarius Publicus, and apostille does not replace the embassy. Myanmar has no embassy in Stockholm.

Is apostille enough for Myanmar?

No. Myanmar is not in the Hague Convention. The documents need MFA and the Embassy of Myanmar in London. Apostille does not replace that chain.

Is there a Myanmar embassy in Stockholm that can stamp?

No. Myanmar has no embassy in Stockholm. Attestation of foreign documents issued in Sweden is done by the embassy in London after MFA.

Do I need Thai or Chinese instead of Burmese?

No. Burmese, Thai and Chinese are separate Kammarkollegiet authorizations. NRC and DHE want Burmese in Myanmar script.
