How it works for South Korea

Korean authorities think in the family relations register (가족관계등록부, not the abolished 호적): 기본증명서 for birth, 혼인관계증명서 for marriage, 주민등록번호 at the 구청, NTS for tax and business registration, KCUE for foreign degrees, the 등기소 when buying a flat in Seoul or Busan. Forms are in Hangul; Japanese, Chinese and English rarely suffice on originals. We apostille Swedish originals via Notarius Publicus and translate with Kammarkollegiet-authorized Korean. A document issued in Korea is apostilled there, via MOFA and apostille.go.kr. This is the document chain, not K-ETA and not a HiKorea visa.

How a Swedish original reaches South Korea

The usual chain from review to return. Collapse a step if you want less.

1 Find out who the recipient is

A 구청, NTS, KCUE or the 등기소 sends a checklist. The embassy on Laboratoriegatan is rarely on it. K-ETA is not on that list.
2 Order the right Swedish original

Skatteverket, a court or a school issues the paper. Copies rarely suffice for KCUE or a purchase against the 등기소.
3 Translate into Korean if needed

KCUE and most 구청 want authorized Korean in Hangul. Kammarkollegiet.
4 Notarise a power of attorney before apostille

If a 공증인 in Seoul or Incheon is to act for you, the 위임장 must be attested by Notarius Publicus in Sweden first.
5 Apostille and tracked return

Notarius Publicus adds the apostille. You get the original (and translation) back, ready for submission in Korea.

South Korea accepts Hague apostille on Swedish originals. Basic from SEK 1,595 per document. Embassy legalisation via the MFA is not required for the family relations register, NTS or KCUE.

FAQ

Can the embassy on Laboratoriegatan apostille for me?

No. They help Korean citizens with passports, overseas-Korean registration and K-ETA. Apostille on Swedish originals is done by Notarius Publicus in Sweden. MOFA only apostilles Korean originals.

Do I need Japanese or Chinese instead of Korean?

No. Korean, Japanese and Chinese are separate Kammarkollegiet authorizations. The 구청 and KCUE want Hangul, not Hanja only.

I already have an apostille – is English enough for Government24?

Sometimes in the e-service, rarely on the original. NTS and KCUE read Hangul. Apostille proves authenticity; translation makes the content readable.
