Apostille shows the Swedish original is genuine. Authorized Bulgarian in Cyrillic makes the content readable for GRAO and NAP. Both steps happen in Sweden – the embassy on Karlavägen 29 does neither.

How it works for Bulgaria

Bulgaria splits population records, tax and education across different registers. GRAO (ГРАО) handles civil registration and address. NAP (НАП) requires EGN/LNČ papers and tax certificates. MON nostrifies foreign degrees for Bulgarian licensing. An obshtina registers marriage, divorce and custody. A notarius attests property deals. Forms are in Bulgarian Cyrillic – not Macedonian, not English. Bulgaria is an EU and Schengen member. We apostille via Notarius Publicus and translate with Kammarkollegiet-authorized Bulgarian. A Bulgarian original is apostilled in Bulgaria via a court, not by us.

1 Read the recipient’s checklist

GRAO, NAP, an obshtina, MON or a notarius lists which originals are required. Save the email – it drives the order.
2 Order the right Swedish original

Court, Skatteverket or university. A generic “personal record” rarely suffices if they asked for a judgment or transcript.
3 Translate into Bulgarian

GRAO and NAP rarely read Swedish. Authorized Bulgarian in Cyrillic via Kammarkollegiet – not Macedonian or machine translation.
4 Notarise if the notarius requires it

Powers of attorney and sometimes copies are attested by Notarius Publicus before apostille.
5 Apostille and delivery

Apostille on the Swedish original. Return by tracked post – you submit to GRAO, the obshtina, NAP or MON.

Apostille for GRAO and NAP

Bulgaria is a Hague country and EU/Schengen. A Swedish apostille is enough for most civil and education cases. Basic from SEK 850 – no MFA chain.

FAQ

Can the embassy on Karlavägen legalise for me?

No. They handle passports and consular work for Bulgarian citizens. Apostille on Swedish originals is done by Notarius Publicus.

Is Macedonian enough because of neighbouring countries?

No. GRAO and NAP want Bulgarian in Cyrillic. Macedonian is a different Kammarkollegiet language.

Do I need a Swedish EGN certificate?

That depends on the NAP case. We help with apostille and translation of Swedish certificates – not with a Bulgarian EGN itself.
