Documents for Greece

Document services for Greece

AFM, DOATAP and a δήμος in Athens, Thessaloniki or Patras want an apostille, not a stamp from the Greek Embassy on Kommendörsgatan. We add authorized Greek, in the Greek alphabet, when the form requires it. Apostille is not a Schengen visa.

Correct path

The right path for Greece

Apostille via Notarius Publicus is enough for AFM, DOATAP and the δήμος. The embassy on Kommendörsgatan handles passports and consular work, not that chain.

Overview

How it works for Greece

AFM, DOATAP and the δήμος often require an apostille on Swedish originals. Greece is a Hague country and in the EU: Notarius Publicus apostilles in Sweden. The Greek decentralized administration apostilles Greek originals, not Swedish extracts. The embassy at Kommendörsgatan 16 does passports, AFM for Greek citizens and consular work, not apostille toward DOATAP. When the form requires Greek we run authorized translation in parallel, in the Greek alphabet. Not Ancient Greek and not a Latin transcription. Apostille for Greece is not a Schengen visa.

When needed

When do Greek recipients want an apostille?

The request comes from AFM, DOATAP, a δήμος or κτηματολόγιο. Typical cases:

  • AFM papers toward a ΔΟΥ and tax
  • A diploma for DOATAP in Athens
  • Marriage at a δήμος in Thessaloniki or Patras
  • A power of attorney for an agent before a Greek συμβολαιογράφος
  • Property toward κτηματολόγιο in Heraklion
  • A company extract for ΓΕΜΗ in Athens

  1. 1 The checklist from AFM, DOATAP or the δήμος

The request comes from a ΔΟΥ, DOATAP in Athens or a δήμος in Thessaloniki. The embassy on Kommendörsgatan is not on that list.

  2. 2 Greek, in the Greek alphabet

DOATAP, the δήμος and κτηματολόγιο rarely take unprocessed Swedish. Authorized Greek runs in parallel in the Greek alphabet. Not Ancient Greek, not Latin.

  3. 3 A power of attorney for a συμβολαιογράφος is notarised first

An agent in Athens or Patras wants an attested power of attorney before apostille. Notarius Publicus first.

  4. 4 Apostille via Notarius Publicus

Greece is a Hague country. Apostille replaces MFA and embassy stamps. The decentralized administration does not stamp Swedish originals toward DOATAP. That is not a Schengen visa.

  5. 5 Return, ready for Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras or Heraklion

You get the documents by tracked post, ready for AFM, DOATAP or the δήμος on the ground.

Important

Apostille for Greece, not the embassy on Kommendörsgatan

Greece is in the Hague Convention. Apostille via Notarius Publicus is the path for AFM, DOATAP and the δήμος. The embassy on Kommendörsgatan is passports and consular work, not that step. Apostille for Greece starts from SEK 850 in Basic.

Translation, timing and embassy

Why Greek is usually needed

DOATAP, the δήμος and κτηματολόγιο rarely accept unprocessed Swedish. Authorized Greek from a Kammarkollegiet translator is its own step, in the Greek alphabet. Not Ancient Greek, not Latin. From SEK 1,495. Translation plus apostille from SEK 1,895.

Timeline for AFM, DOATAP or the δήμος

Apostille usually takes a few business days in Basic once originals are in. Add time for Greek translation and any notarisation. The total depends on:

  • whether a power of attorney must be notarised first
  • whether authorized Greek must finish in parallel
  • Notarius Publicus capacity
  • how many documents sit in the same AFM or DOATAP file
Greek Embassy vs apostille

The embassy at Kommendörsgatan 16 handles passports, AFM for Greek citizens and consular work. It does not apostille papers for DOATAP or the δήμος. For Swedish originals, Notarius Publicus is the right office.

  • Apostille for AFM, DOATAP and the δήμος
  • Notarisation of powers of attorney
  • Authorized Greek translation
  • No MFA or embassy chain for ordinary legalisation to Greece

FAQ

Is apostille enough for Greece, or must the embassy stamp?
For AFM, DOATAP and the δήμος, apostille is enough. The Greek Embassy on Kommendörsgatan does passports and consular work for Greek citizens, not that legalisation. Apostille for Greece is not a Schengen visa.
Must the document be translated into Greek?
DOATAP, the δήμος and κτηματολόγιο usually want Greek in the Greek alphabet. English is rarely enough. We use a Kammarkollegiet-authorized translator. Not Ancient Greek, not Latin.
Can you apostille a Greek original in Sweden?
No. A document issued in Greece is apostilled there, often via the decentralized administration. Here a Swedish original is apostilled for use in Greece.
