Documents for Hungary

Document services for Hungary

NAV, an önkormányzat and OM/OFIK in Budapest, Debrecen or Szeged send Swedish papers back without an apostille and without Hungarian. The embassy on Götgatan helps with passports and consular work – not with getting the file accepted.

Correct path

Hungarian authorities usually want two things

Apostille shows the Swedish original is genuine. Authorized Hungarian makes the content readable for NAV and OM/OFIK. Both steps happen in Sweden – the embassy on Götgatan 35 does neither.

Overview

How it works for Hungary

Hungary splits tax, social insurance and education across different registers. NAV handles adóazonosító jel, pensions and employer papers. OM/OFIK recognizes foreign degrees for Hungarian licensing. Okmányiroda issues a lakcímkártya when you move in. A közjegyző attests property deals. Forms are in Hungarian with their own diacritics – not Romanian, not English. We apostille via Notarius Publicus and translate with Kammarkollegiet-authorized Hungarian. A Hungarian original is apostilled in Hungary via a court, not by us.

When needed

Common NAV and OM/OFIK cases

Swedes with a link to Hungary often face:

  • A divorce or custody order must be registered at the önkormányzat
  • A Swedish degree must be recognized by OM/OFIK (e.g. teacher, nurse)
  • Pension or A1 papers must be proven to NAV
  • A lakcímkártya requires an apostilled birth certificate
  • A közjegyző wants a power of attorney for property in Budapest
  • An employer in Szeged asks for a criminal record with an apostille

From a Swedish court or school to NAV

The usual chain from review to return. Collapse a step if you want less.

  1. 1 Read the recipient’s checklist

NAV, OM/OFIK, okmányiroda or a közjegyző lists which originals are required. Save the email – it drives the order.

  2. 2 Order the right Swedish original

Court, Skatteverket or university. A generic “personal record” rarely suffices if they asked for a judgment or transcript.

  3. 3 Translate into Hungarian

NAV and OM/OFIK rarely read Swedish. Authorized Hungarian via Kammarkollegiet – not Romanian or machine translation.

  4. 4 Notarise if the közjegyző requires it

Powers of attorney and sometimes copies are attested by Notarius Publicus before apostille.

  5. 5 Apostille and delivery

Apostille on the Swedish original. Return by tracked post – you submit to NAV, the önkormányzat or OM/OFIK.

Important

FAQ

Can the embassy on Götgatan legalise for me?
No. They handle passports and consular work for Hungarian citizens. Apostille on Swedish originals is done by Notarius Publicus.
Is Romanian enough because of neighbouring countries?
No. NAV and OM/OFIK want Hungarian. Romanian is a different Kammarkollegiet language.
Do I need a Swedish health insurance certificate?
That depends on the NAV case. We help with apostille and translation of Swedish certificates – not with Hungarian health cover itself.
