Documents for Iran

Document services for Iran

Iran is not in the Hague Convention. Swedish public documents go via Notarius Publicus, the Swedish MFA and the Iranian Embassy in Lidingö. We add authorized Persian when civil registry, a university or a bank asks for it.

Correct path

The right path for Iran

Apostille is not enough. The chain is notarisation when needed, MFA, then a stamp at the Iranian Embassy in Sweden.

Overview

How it works for Iran

The Iranian Embassy in Lidingö stamps after MFA. Apostille is not enough: Iran is not a Hague country. Civil registry in Tehran, a university in Mashhad or Isfahan, or a bank usually wants Persian, not Arabic and not Dari. Dari is Afghanistan. We run notarisation when needed, MFA and the embassy. Standard documents follow the list price; longer texts after a scan.

When needed

When do Iranian recipients want embassy legalisation?

The request comes from civil registry, a university, bank, court or employer. Typical cases:

  • Marriage or kinship to be recorded in Tehran
  • Studies where Iranian universities ask for legalised Swedish grades
  • Probate, property or a power of attorney an Iranian notary must rely on
  • A bank or company file that wants a Bolagsverket extract
  • A name change or marital status against an Iranian register
  • Return cases where Swedish documents must be used on the ground

From a Swedish document to an accepted chain for Iran

The usual chain from review to return. Collapse a step if you want less.

  1. 1 Read the Iran requirement

We start from the recipient checklist. That decides language, notarisation and stamp.

  2. 2 Translate into Persian when required

Many recipients in Iran want authorized Persian. Even in English-speaking countries the original Swedish text often still needs a certified translation.

  3. 3 Notarise private powers of attorney

Powers of attorney are attested by Notarius Publicus before the stamp. Public extracts can often be stamped directly.

  4. 4 Embassy legalisation

Iran is not in the Hague Convention. Apostille via Notarius Publicus is not enough. The path is MFA and the Iranian Embassy in Lidingö. Embassy legalisation starts from SEK 2,495 in Basic. Embassy fees may be added.

  5. 5 Return to you

You get the documents by tracked post, ready for the recipient in Iran.

Translation, timing and embassy

Why Persian is usually needed

Iranian registries, schools and banks rarely accept unprocessed Swedish. Authorized Persian from a Kammarkollegiet translator is its own step, even when the embassy chain is already required. Standard documents from SEK 1,495. Longer texts after a scan. Translation plus legalisation from SEK 3,495.

Timeline for civil registry, university or bank

The embassy chain takes longer than apostille. MFA and the Iranian Embassy have their own queues. Add time for Persian translation and any notarisation. The total depends on:

  • whether a power of attorney must be notarised first
  • whether authorized Persian must finish in parallel
  • MFA and Lidingö embassy capacity
  • how many documents sit in the same family or study file
Iranian Embassy vs apostille

The embassy in Lidingö stamps the chain MFA has already started. It does not replace Notarius Publicus, and apostille does not replace the embassy. Visas are a different product.

  • No apostille for ordinary legalisation to Iran
  • Notarisation of powers of attorney before MFA
  • Authorized Persian translation
  • MFA and embassy chain for Swedish public documents
