Correct path

The right path for Turkey

Apostille via Notarius Publicus is enough for Nüfus, YÖK and tapu. The Turkish Embassy in Stockholm does not stamp that chain.

Overview

How it works for Turkey

Nüfus in Istanbul or Ankara, YÖK and tapu want proof the original is genuine. Turkey is a Hague country: Notarius Publicus apostilles in Sweden. The Turkish Embassy in Stockholm does not do that stamp, and apostille is not a visa. When the form requires Turkish we run authorized translation in parallel. Typical cases are civil status at Nüfus, diploma recognition via YÖK and a power of attorney for the land registry.

When needed

When do Turkish recipients want an apostille?

The request comes from Nüfus, YÖK, tapu, an employer, bank or notary. Typical cases:

  • Civil status and kinship at Nüfus in Istanbul or Ankara
  • Diploma recognition via YÖK
  • Employment that wants a background check for Turkish HR
  • Tapu or a power of attorney a Turkish notary must rely on
  • A company or bank in Istanbul that wants a Bolagsverket extract
  • A name change against the Turkish register

From a Nüfus requirement to apostille in Sweden

The usual chain from review to return. Collapse a step if you want less.

  1. 1 The checklist from Nüfus, YÖK or tapu

The request comes from the civil registry, diploma recognition or the land registry. The embassy in Stockholm is not on that list.

  2. 2 Turkish when the form requires it

Nüfus and YÖK rarely take unprocessed Swedish. Authorized Turkish runs in parallel with apostille.

  3. 3 A power of attorney for tapu is notarised first

An agent in Istanbul or Ankara wants an attested power of attorney before apostille. Notarius Publicus first.

  4. 4 Apostille via Notarius Publicus

Turkey is a Hague country. Apostille replaces MFA and embassy stamps. That is not a visa.

  5. 5 Return, ready for Istanbul or Ankara

You get the documents by tracked post, ready for Nüfus, YÖK or tapu on the ground.

Important

Apostille for Turkey, not embassy legalisation

Turkey is in the Hague Convention. Apostille via Notarius Publicus is the path for Nüfus, YÖK and tapu. The embassy in Stockholm is not that step. Apostille for Turkey starts from SEK 850 in Basic.

Translation, timing and embassy

Why Turkish is usually needed

Turkish agencies and schools rarely accept unprocessed Swedish. Authorized Turkish from a Kammarkollegiet translator is its own step, even when apostille already covers legalisation. From SEK 1,495. Translation plus apostille from SEK 1,895.

Timeline for Nüfus, YÖK or tapu

Apostille usually takes a few business days in Basic once originals are in. Add time for Turkish translation and any notarisation. The total depends on:

  • whether a power of attorney must be notarised first
  • whether authorized Turkish must finish in parallel
  • Notarius Publicus capacity
  • how many documents sit in the same Nüfus or YÖK file
Turkish Embassy vs apostille

The embassy in Stockholm handles consular work and visas. It does not apostille papers for Nüfus or tapu. For documents to be used in Turkey, Notarius Publicus is the right office.

  • Apostille for Nüfus, YÖK and tapu
  • Notarisation of powers of attorney
  • Authorized Turkish translation
  • No MFA or embassy chain for ordinary legalisation to Turkey

FAQ

Is apostille enough for Turkey, or must the embassy stamp?
For Nüfus, YÖK and tapu, apostille is enough. The Turkish Embassy in Stockholm does not do that legalisation. Apostille for Turkey is not a visa.
Must the document be translated into Turkish?
Nüfus, YÖK and many employers usually want Turkish. English is rarely enough. We use a Kammarkollegiet-authorized translator and can sync it with the apostille.
Can you apostille a Turkish original in Sweden?
No. A document issued in Turkey is apostilled there. Here a Swedish original is apostilled for use in Turkey.
