Documents for Ukraine

Document services for Ukraine

Ukraine is in the Hague Convention. Swedish public documents get an apostille in Sweden, not at the Ukrainian Embassy in Lidingö. We add authorized Ukrainian when DRACS, a school or an employer asks for it.

Correct path

The right path for Ukraine

Apostille via Notarius Publicus is enough for Swedish public documents. The Ukrainian Embassy in Lidingö does not stamp that chain.

Overview

How it works for Ukraine

DRACS in Kyiv or Lviv, DMS and Ukrainian universities accept apostille from Notarius Publicus. The Ukrainian Embassy in Lidingö does not do that stamp. The form decides whether it is marriage, diploma recognition or a background check, and whether authorized Ukrainian must come with it. English is rarely enough at DRACS.

When needed

When do Ukrainian recipients want an apostille?

The request comes from DRACS, DMS, a university, employer, bank or notary. Typical cases:

  • Marriage or kinship to be recorded at DRACS
  • Recognition of a Swedish diploma at a Ukrainian university
  • Employment that wants a Swedish criminal-record extract with apostille
  • Probate, property or a power of attorney a Ukrainian notary must rely on
  • A company or bank in Kyiv that wants a Bolagsverket extract
  • A name change or marital status against the Ukrainian register

From a Swedish document to an accepted chain for Ukraine

The usual chain from review to return. Collapse a step if you want less.

  1. 1 Read the Ukraine requirement

We start from the recipient checklist. That decides language, notarisation and apostille.

  2. 2 Translate into Ukrainian when required

Many recipients in Ukraine want authorized Ukrainian. Even in English-speaking countries the original Swedish text often still needs a certified translation.

  3. 3 Notarise private powers of attorney

Powers of attorney are attested by Notarius Publicus before apostille. Public extracts can often be apostilled directly.

  4. 4 Apostille via Notarius Publicus

Ukraine is in the Hague Convention. Apostille replaces MFA and embassy stamps for Swedish public documents.

  5. 5 Return to you

You get the documents by tracked post, ready for the recipient in Ukraine.

Important

Apostille for Ukraine, not embassy legalisation

Ukraine is in the Hague Convention. Apostille via Notarius Publicus is the path for Swedish public documents. The embassy in Lidingö is not that step. Apostille for Ukraine starts from SEK 850 in Basic.

Why Ukrainian is usually needed

Ukrainian agencies and schools rarely accept unprocessed Swedish. Authorized Ukrainian from a Kammarkollegiet translator is its own step, even when apostille already covers legalisation. From SEK 1,495. Translation plus apostille from SEK 1,895.

Timeline for DRACS, DMS or a university

Apostille usually takes a few business days in Basic once originals are in. Add time for Ukrainian translation and any notarisation. The total depends on:

  • whether a power of attorney must be notarised first
  • whether authorized Ukrainian must finish in parallel
  • Notarius Publicus capacity
  • how many documents sit in the same DRACS or study file
Ukrainian Embassy vs apostille

The embassy in Lidingö handles consular work. It does not apostille Swedish personal extracts. For documents to be used in Ukraine, Notarius Publicus is the right office.

  • Apostille for Swedish public documents
  • Notarisation of powers of attorney
  • Authorized Ukrainian translation
  • No MFA or embassy chain for ordinary legalisation to Ukraine

FAQ

Is apostille enough for Ukraine, or must the embassy stamp?
For Swedish public documents, apostille is enough. The Ukrainian Embassy in Lidingö does not do that legalisation. Visas are a different product.
Must the document be translated into Ukrainian?
DRACS, universities and many employers usually want Ukrainian. English is rarely enough. We use a Kammarkollegiet-authorized translator and can sync it with the apostille.
Can you apostille a Ukrainian original in Sweden?
No. A document issued in Ukraine is apostilled there. Here a Swedish original is apostilled for use in Ukraine.
