Swedish population extract

Apostille and translation of a Swedish personbevis

A foreign office asked for a Swedish personbevis and a stamp. Skatteverket prints the extract. We add an authorised translation and place the apostille on the original, in one case.

The extract

The version with your family on it

A wedding office, a bank or a civil registry almost always wants the extract that lists your spouse, children and parents. A short address slip, or a screenshot from Mina sidor, is rarely the paper they agree to stamp.

Translation

Words the office can actually read

A translator authorised by Kammarkollegiet puts the extract into the language that office uses. A standard document starts at 1 495 kr. The language follows the country, not a guess.

Apostille

The stamp stays on the Swedish original

A notary public places the apostille on the Skatteverket extract. The stamp says the document is genuine. It does not translate a single line. That is why the two jobs belong in the same case. Apostille starts at 1 595 kr.

Pay only for the steps they asked for

Some offices want the translation alone. Some want only the stamp. When they want both, the package is the short way through.

Which personbevis to order

A personbevis is the Swedish population extract. Skatteverket prints who you are, where you are registered, and, on the fuller version, who you are related to. A passport proves identity. This paper proves the civil record.

When an office asks you to translate a personbevis, they almost always mean the extract with relations. Skatteverket will also sell a short slip that only shows your name and address. That is the wrong one for a wedding, a residence file or a bank. Order the extract that lists your spouse, children and parents.

It is not a marriage certificate. The marriage certificate comes from the person who married you. This page is the population extract.

Order the paper original. An apostille is placed on a document that already carries a signature and a stamp, not on a PDF you printed at home.

How the case runs

1

Order the extract

From Skatteverket, with the relations the recipient named. If their letter is vague, send it to us before you pay for the wrong version.

2

Send us the original

We name the language, and we say whether that country takes an apostille or wants the embassy route.

3

Translation and stamp

The apostille lands on the Swedish extract. The translation is done by a translator authorised by Kammarkollegiet. Both come back to you.

A notary, but rarely an extra notarisation

A private power of attorney usually has to be signed in front of a notary before it can carry an apostille. A personbevis from Skatteverket is already an official extract, so the apostille goes straight onto it. If a country still wants a separate certification, we say so before anything starts.

How a fullmakt is handled

Where is the extract going?

The country decides between an apostille and a route through the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and that country’s embassy. Pick the recipient and you land on the right package.

Thailand, China and the United Arab Emirates do not take an apostille on this extract. The route runs through the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the embassy. That package starts at 3 495 kr.

Questions people ask before they order

What is a personbevis?

It is the extract from the Swedish population register, printed by Skatteverket. The fuller version shows your civil status and your family relations. Foreign offices ask for it when a passport is not enough to prove who you are registered with.

Will a printout from Mina sidor do?

Not if they want an apostille. The stamp is placed on the original extract from Skatteverket. A printout of a screen is a copy, and most offices will not take that copy in place of the original.

How recent does the extract need to be?

The recipient sets the date. Many offices want an extract no more than a couple of months old, often about three. We will not invent a deadline for a country you have not named. Send their requirement and we will say whether the date still holds.

Does it need a separate notarisation first?

Usually no. Skatteverket issued the extract, so a notary public can apostille it directly. A private power of attorney is a different document and is notarised first.

Can you translate a personbevis into English?

Yes. English is the usual language for the USA, the United Kingdom, and offices that ask for English. The translator is authorised by Kammarkollegiet. The country you pick below names the language for that case.

What does translation and apostille cost?

Authorised translation starts at 1 495 kr. Apostille starts at 1 595 kr. The package with both starts at 2 395 kr. Countries without apostille, such as Thailand, China and the United Arab Emirates, go through the embassy. That package starts at 3 495 kr.

Do I get the original back?

Yes. The apostille stays on the extract, and the extract comes back with the translation.

Not sure which extract they mean?

Send the letter from the office, the bank or the wedding registrar. We will say which Skatteverket version to order, and whether that country wants an apostille or the embassy, before you buy the wrong paper.
