Overview

How it works for Austria

ZPR is a national register filled by local Standesamt offices in Vienna, Graz and Linz. Moving there is a civil-status act. MA 35 in Vienna decides residence. The degree track is ENIC NARIC Austria against Austrian level. Companies appear in Firmenbuch at the Landesgericht. A property purchase goes through a Notar toward Grundbuch. Tax runs in FinanzOnline. As an EU country Austria can take multilingual civil-status certificates under Regulation 2016/1191; that does not remove apostille and it rarely removes German toward a university or Firmenbuch. Swedish originals are apostilled by Notarius Publicus. BMEIA apostilles Austrian ones.

When needed

When does Standesamt or ENIC require apostille?

The list comes from Standesamt, ENIC NARIC Austria or a Notar. Typical files:

  • Vienna must write a Swedish marriage certificate into ZPR
  • Finanzamt wants papers in FinanzOnline
  • ENIC NARIC Austria must compare a degree against Austrian level
  • A Notar in Graz must register a purchase toward Grundbuch
  • A company must enter Firmenbuch at the Landesgericht
  • A Vollmacht so someone else can sign at the Notar

From a Swedish extract to ZPR

The usual chain from review to return. Collapse a step if you want less.

  1. 1 Standesamt, ENIC or Firmenbuch?

The ZPR file goes via Standesamt. The degree file goes to ENIC NARIC Austria. Companies to Firmenbuch. MA 35 does not take apostille as a substitute for a residence application.

  2. 2 Order the original in Sweden

A personal extract from Skatteverket, a diploma from the university. ENIC and a Notar toward Grundbuch rarely take a screenshot.

  3. 3 German – unless the EU form suffices

Regulation 2016/1191 can give a multilingual civil-status certificate to some Standesamt offices. ENIC NARIC Austria and Firmenbuch still usually want authorized German (the same authorization as toward Germany; the file does not go to ZAB).

  4. 4 A Vollmacht is attested in Sweden

If a Notar in Graz is buying for you, Notarius Publicus attests the Vollmacht here. An Austrian Notar does not stamp that Swedish power of attorney.

  5. 5 Apostille here, BMEIA there

Notarius Publicus puts apostille on Swedish papers. BMEIA apostilles Austrian originals. You send to Standesamt, ENIC or a Notar.

Translation, timing and embassy

Why German is usually needed

Standesamt and ENIC NARIC Austria rarely accept unprocessed Swedish. Authorized German from a Kammarkollegiet translator is its own step, the same pair as for Germany. From SEK 1,495 for a standard document. Translation plus apostille from SEK 1,895. An EU multilingual civil-status form can suffice for some Standesamt files.

Timeline for ZPR, ENIC NARIC or Firmenbuch

Apostille usually takes a few business days. Add time for German and any notarisation. The total depends on:

  • whether the Vollmacht must be notarised first
  • whether authorized German must run in parallel
  • processing at Notarius Publicus
  • the ENIC NARIC queue toward degree comparison

  • Notarisation of a Vollmacht before apostille
  • Authorized German translation
  • Notarius Publicus for Swedish public documents

FAQ

Can the embassy in Stockholm apostille for me?
Not Swedish originals. They renew passports. Apostille for ZPR, ENIC and Firmenbuch is done by Notarius Publicus. BMEIA apostilles Austrian documents.
Do I need German if I have the EU multilingual form?
For some Standesamt acts Regulation 2016/1191 can suffice. ENIC NARIC Austria and Firmenbuch still usually want authorized German. Ask the recipient before you skip translation.
Is MA 35 enough instead of apostille?
No. MA 35 and Niederlassungsbewilligung are residence in Vienna. ZPR, Finanzamt and ENIC want apostille on the document. As an EU citizen you do not need a visa for Austria.
