Correct path

SCU takes the MFA chain, not an apostille

Egypt is outside the Hague Convention. Swedish originals: notarisation when needed, MFA, then a stamp at the Embassy of Egypt in Stockholm. They legalise documents; a visa is a different queue. Arabic toward SCU, ETA and Civil Status: authorized translation from Kammarkollegiet. A tawkeel rasmi is attested in Sweden before the chain. Documents issued in Egypt are legalised via the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Cairo.

Overview

How it works for Egypt

The Supreme Council of Universities compares a Swedish degree against Egyptian level. Al-Azhar runs its own track for religious degrees. The national ID is assigned via the Civil Status Authority. ETA issues the tax card. The two numbers do not swap places. Companies go to the commercial registry or GAFI. Property to Real Estate Publicity. The form is Modern Standard Arabic in Arabic script; Egyptian dialect rarely suffices on the original. Swedish originals are legalised via MFA and the Embassy of Egypt in Stockholm. Documents issued in Egypt are legalised via the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Cairo, not here. An e-visa does not stamp the SCU file.

When needed

When do SCU or ETA want an embassy stamp?

The request sits with SCU, ETA, Civil Status or Real Estate Publicity. Typical files:

  • SCU must compare a Swedish degree against Egyptian level
  • Al-Azhar must take a religious degree on its own track
  • Civil Status must tie the national ID to identity papers
  • ETA must issue the tax card against tax papers
  • Real Estate Publicity must register a purchase in Cairo or Alexandria
  • A tawkeel rasmi so someone can sign before a notary in Giza

Documents we often see toward SCU, ETA and Civil Status

Typical documents by category. Collapse a box if you want less.

01 Civil Status and the national ID
  • Birth or marriage extract toward Cairo or Alexandria
  • National ID on the federal identity track
  • A name change toward Civil Status
02 SCU and Al-Azhar
  • Diploma toward equivalency at SCU
  • Transcript for Cairo University or AUC
  • A religious degree toward Al-Azhar
03 ETA, GAFI and Real Estate Publicity
  • Tax card toward ETA
  • A company toward the commercial registry or GAFI
  • Tawkeel rasmi for a notary in Giza

SCU, the national ID or Real Estate Publicity

The usual chain from review to return. Collapse a step if you want less.

  1. 1 SCU, Al-Azhar, ETA or Real Estate Publicity?

A degree to SCU, a religious degree to Al-Azhar, tax to ETA, the acta to Civil Status. An e-visa does not take legalisation as a substitute for entry.

  2. 2 Order the original in Sweden

A personal extract from Skatteverket, a diploma from the university. SCU and ETA rarely take a screenshot.

  3. 3 Arabic – Modern Standard, not dialect

Authorized Arabic from Kammarkollegiet. The recipient is SCU or ETA in Cairo. Spoken Egyptian Arabic rarely suffices on the original.

  4. 4 A tawkeel rasmi is attested in Sweden

If someone in Cairo is signing for you, Notarius Publicus attests the tawkeel here. An Egyptian notary does not stamp that Swedish power of attorney.

  5. 5 MFA here, Egyptian MFA there

MFA and the Embassy of Egypt in Stockholm legalise Swedish papers. Egyptian originals are legalised via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Cairo. You send to SCU, ETA or Civil Status.

Important

No apostille for Egypt

Egypt is not in the Hague Convention. Apostille via Notarius Publicus does not replace MFA and the Embassy of Egypt. Legalisation starts from SEK 2,495 in Basic. The embassy’s own tariff may be added.

Typical Egypt cases we see

Expand a case to see documents, route and timing.

Equivalency at SCU in Cairo SCU maps against an Egyptian degree. Original plus Arabic. Al-Azhar is a different file. An e-visa shows entry, not equivalency.

Typical documents

  • Diploma
  • Transcript
  • Arabic

Arabic if needed → MFA → embassy

Often three to six weeks with translation

National ID via Civil Status Civil Status ties identity. An apostille is not enough. Arabic if the form will not take Swedish.

Typical documents

  • Personal extract
  • Marriage certificate
  • Arabic if needed

Arabic if needed → MFA → embassy

Often two to four weeks with translation

A tawkeel toward Real Estate Publicity A purchase in Alexandria without you there needs an attested tawkeel rasmi. The attestation is done in Sweden before MFA.

Typical documents

  • Power of attorney
  • Company extract if needed
  • Arabic if needed

Notarisation → MFA → embassy (+ Arabic if needed)

Often three to five weeks

The tax card at ETA ETA issues the tax ID. The national ID is the identity key. They are not the same number and neither of them is an e-visa.

Typical documents

  • Extracts
  • Power of attorney
  • Arabic

Arabic if needed → MFA → embassy

Often several weeks plus translation

Arabic toward SCU – dialect is not enough

SCU and ETA rarely take unprocessed Swedish. Authorized Arabic from Kammarkollegiet from SEK 1,495. Translation plus legalisation from SEK 3,495. Egyptian dialect is not the same as Modern Standard Arabic on the form.

Time toward SCU and ETA

The embassy chain usually takes several weeks. Equivalency at SCU takes longer than the stamp. Also allow for:

  • a tawkeel rasmi that must be attested before a notary in Cairo acts
  • Arabic here, Modern Standard on the original
  • the SCU queue toward degree comparison
  • processing at MFA and the embassy
The embassy stamps the SCU file – not the e-visa

The Embassy of Egypt legalises documents. A visa is a different queue. Apostille does not replace the chain toward SCU and ETA.

  • Legalisation on Swedish originals for Egypt
  • Attestation of a tawkeel rasmi before MFA
  • Authorized Arabic toward SCU and ETA
  • MFA and embassy – not apostille – for Swedish papers

FAQ

Is apostille enough for Egypt?
No. Egypt is outside the Hague Convention. SCU, ETA and Civil Status want MFA plus the Embassy of Egypt in Stockholm.
Is Kammarkollegiet Arabic enough for SCU?
Many recipients take authorized Arabic from Kammarkollegiet plus legalisation. That is Modern Standard Arabic, not Egyptian dialect. Ask SCU before you assume you can skip the translation.
Is an e-visa enough instead of legalisation?
No. An e-visa is entry. SCU, ETA and Real Estate Publicity want the embassy chain on the document.
