Documents for Afghanistan

Document services for Afghanistan

Afghanistan is not in the Hague Convention. Swedish public documents go via Notarius Publicus, MFA and the Afghan mission in Sweden. We match Dari or Pashto. Persian for Iran is a different Kammarkollegiet language.

Correct path

The right path for Afghanistan

Apostille is not enough. The chain is notarisation when needed, MFA, then a stamp at the Afghan mission in Sweden when it can be issued.

Official embassy page: Embassy of Afghanistan in Sweden

Overview

How it works for Afghanistan

The mission in Saltsjö-Duvnäs stamps after MFA. Apostille is not enough. A recipient in Kabul, Herat or Mazar-e Sharif asks for Dari or Pashto, not Persian for Iran. The package covers Dari; Pashto is a separate pair. We confirm the stamp before we bill the embassy step. Standard documents follow the list price; longer texts after a scan.

When needed

When do Afghan recipients want embassy legalisation?

The request comes from a registry, university, bank, court or employer. Typical cases:

  • Marriage or kinship to be recorded in Kabul
  • Studies where Afghan universities ask for legalised Swedish grades
  • Probate, property or a power of attorney an Afghan notary must rely on
  • A bank or company file that wants a Bolagsverket extract
  • A tazkira or civil-status case against the Afghan register
  • Return cases where Swedish documents must be used on the ground

From a Swedish document to an accepted chain for Afghanistan

The usual chain from review to return. Collapse a step if you want less.

  1. 1 Read the Afghanistan requirement

We start from the recipient checklist. That decides language, notarisation and stamp.

  2. 2 Translate into Dari when required

Many recipients in Afghanistan want authorized Dari. Even in English-speaking countries the original Swedish text often still needs a certified translation.

  3. 3 Notarise private powers of attorney

Powers of attorney are attested by Notarius Publicus before the stamp. Public extracts can often be stamped directly.

  4. 4 Embassy legalisation

Afghanistan is not in the Hague Convention. Apostille via Notarius Publicus does not replace MFA and the mission. Legalisation for Afghanistan starts from SEK 2,495 in Basic. The embassy’s own tariff may be added.

  5. 5 Return to you

You get the documents by tracked post, ready for the recipient in Afghanistan.

Translation, timing and embassy

Dari, Pashto and Persian are different languages

Afghan agencies usually want Dari or Pashto, not unprocessed Swedish. Kammarkollegiet has separate authorisations. Persian (Farsi) is used for Iran, not as a substitute for Dari. From SEK 1,495 for a standard document. Fewer translators, so longer texts after a scan. The package from SEK 3,495 covers Dari plus legalisation.

Timeline for a registry, school or bank

The embassy chain usually takes several weeks. Add time for Dari or Pashto and any notarisation. The total depends on:

  • whether a power of attorney must be notarised first
  • whether authorized Dari or Pashto must finish in parallel
  • MFA processing
  • whether the mission in Saltsjö-Duvnäs can stamp right now
Afghan mission vs apostille

The mission in Saltsjö-Duvnäs stamps the chain MFA has already started, when the stamp can be issued. It does not replace Notarius Publicus, and apostille does not replace the embassy. We confirm capacity before we bill the embassy step.

  • No apostille for ordinary legalisation to Afghanistan
  • Notarisation of powers of attorney before MFA
  • Authorized Dari or Pashto, not Persian as a substitute
  • MFA and embassy chain for Swedish public documents

FAQ

Is apostille enough for Afghanistan, or must the embassy stamp?
Apostille is not enough. Afghanistan is not in the Hague Convention. The documents need MFA and the Afghan mission in Sweden. We confirm the stamp can be issued before we bill that step. Visas are a different product.
Should I choose Dari or Pashto?
The recipient decides. Dari and Pashto are separate Kammarkollegiet authorisations. Persian for Iran is a third language. Send the requirement text and we match the pair.
Can you legalise an Afghan original in Sweden?
No. A document issued in Afghanistan is legalised there. Here a Swedish original is legalised for use in Afghanistan.
