Documents for India

Document services for India

OCI, FRRO and AIU in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru or Hyderabad want an apostille, not a stamp from the Indian Embassy on Kornhamnstorg. MEA apostilles Indian originals, not Swedish ones. We add authorized Hindi in Devanagari when the form requires it. Apostille is not an e-visa.

Correct path

The right path for India

Apostille via Notarius Publicus is enough for OCI, FRRO, AIU and a Sub-Registrar. The embassy on Kornhamnstorg handles visas and consular work, not that chain.

Overview

How it works for India

OCI, FRRO and AIU often require an apostille on Swedish originals. India has been a Hague country since 2005: Notarius Publicus apostilles in Sweden. MEA (the Indian MFA) apostilles documents issued in India, not Swedish extracts. The embassy at Kornhamnstorg 4 does e-visa support and consular work for Indian citizens, not apostille toward OCI. When the form requires Hindi we run authorized translation in Devanagari in parallel – not Urdu. Apostille is not an e-visa, an e-business visa or an embassy visa.

When needed

When do Indian recipients want an apostille?

The request comes from OCI, FRRO, AIU, a Sub-Registrar or a municipal corporation. Typical cases:

  • OCI papers toward the Ministry of Home Affairs
  • FRRO registration when the original must be proven
  • A diploma for AIU in Delhi
  • A power of attorney for an agent before a Sub-Registrar
  • A company extract for a counterparty in Mumbai or Bengaluru
  • A name change against a municipal board in Hyderabad

  1. 1 The checklist from OCI, FRRO or AIU

The request comes from the OCI portal, FRRO or AIU in Delhi. The embassy on Kornhamnstorg is not on that list.

  2. 2 Hindi when the form requires Devanagari

OCI often takes English. AIU, a Sub-Registrar and many municipal boards want Hindi. Not Urdu.

  3. 3 A power of attorney for a Sub-Registrar is notarised first

An agent in Mumbai or Bengaluru wants an attested power of attorney before apostille. Notarius Publicus first.

  4. 4 Apostille via Notarius Publicus

India is a Hague country. Apostille replaces MFA and embassy stamps. MEA does not stamp Swedish originals. That is not an e-visa.

  5. 5 Return, ready for Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru or Hyderabad

You get the documents by tracked post, ready for OCI, FRRO, AIU or a Sub-Registrar on the ground.

Important

Apostille for India, not MEA and not the embassy

India has been in the Hague Convention since 2005. Apostille via Notarius Publicus is the path for OCI, FRRO and AIU. MEA stamps Indian originals. The embassy on Kornhamnstorg is visas and consular work, not that step. Apostille for India starts from SEK 850 in Basic.

Translation, timing and embassy

When Hindi is needed, and when English is enough

OCI often takes English. AIU, a Sub-Registrar and many municipal boards rarely accept unprocessed Swedish. Authorized Hindi in Devanagari from a Kammarkollegiet translator is its own step. Not Urdu. From SEK 1,495. Translation plus apostille from SEK 1,895.

Timeline for OCI, FRRO or AIU

Apostille usually takes a few business days in Basic once originals are in. Add time for Hindi translation and any notarisation. The total depends on:

  • whether a power of attorney must be notarised first
  • whether authorized Hindi must finish in parallel
  • Notarius Publicus capacity
  • how many documents sit in the same OCI or AIU file
Indian Embassy vs apostille

The embassy at Kornhamnstorg 4 handles visas, e-visa questions and consular work for Indian citizens. It does not apostille papers for OCI, FRRO or AIU. MEA apostilles documents issued in India. For Swedish originals, Notarius Publicus is the right office.

  • Apostille for OCI, FRRO, AIU and a Sub-Registrar
  • Notarisation of powers of attorney
  • Authorized Hindi translation
  • No MFA or embassy chain for ordinary legalisation to India

FAQ

Is apostille enough for India, or must the embassy stamp?
For OCI, FRRO, AIU and a Sub-Registrar, apostille is enough. The Indian Embassy on Kornhamnstorg does visas and consular work, not that legalisation. MEA apostilles Indian originals, not Swedish ones. Apostille for India is not an e-visa.
Must the document be translated into Hindi?
OCI often takes English. AIU, a Sub-Registrar and many municipal boards want Hindi in Devanagari. We use a Kammarkollegiet-authorized translator and can sync it with the apostille. Not Urdu.
Can you apostille an Indian original in Sweden?
No. A document issued in India is apostilled there, often via MEA. Here a Swedish original is apostilled for use in India.
