JMBG, the opština and katastar often require an apostille on Swedish originals. Serbia is a Hague country: Notarius Publicus apostilles in Sweden. MSP apostilles Serbian originals, not Swedish extracts. The embassy at Hantverkargatan 26 does passports, JMBG for Serbian citizens and consular work, not apostille toward the opština. When the form requires Serbian we run authorized translation in Cyrillic or Latin script in parallel. Serbian is not Bosnian and not Croatian; Kammarkollegiet has separate authorizations. Apostille is not a visa for Serbia.

1 The checklist from JMBG, the opština or katastar

The request comes from the matična služba, an opština in Belgrade or Novi Sad, or katastar. The embassy on Hantverkargatan is not on that list.
2 Serbian, Cyrillic or Latin

The opština and Agencija za kvalifikacije rarely take unprocessed Swedish. Authorized Serbian runs in parallel in the alphabet the form requires. Not Bosnian, not Croatian.
3 A power of attorney for a javni beležnik is notarised first

An agent in Belgrade or Niš wants an attested power of attorney before apostille. Notarius Publicus first.
4 Apostille via Notarius Publicus

Serbia is a Hague country. Apostille replaces MFA and embassy stamps. MSP does not stamp Swedish originals toward the opština. That is not a visa.

Why Serbian is usually needed

The opština, katastar and Agencija za kvalifikacije rarely accept unprocessed Swedish. Authorized Serbian from a Kammarkollegiet translator is its own step, Cyrillic or Latin. Not Bosnian, not Croatian. From SEK 1,495. Translation plus apostille from SEK 1,895.

Apostille usually takes a few business days in Basic once originals are in. Add time for Serbian translation and any notarisation. The total depends on:

Is apostille enough for Serbia, or must the embassy stamp?

For JMBG, the opština and katastar, apostille is enough. The Serbian Embassy on Hantverkargatan does passports and consular work for Serbian citizens, not that legalisation. MSP apostilles Serbian originals, not Swedish ones.

Must the document be translated into Serbian?

The opština, katastar and Agencija za kvalifikacije usually want Serbian. English is rarely enough. We use a Kammarkollegiet-authorized translator, Cyrillic or Latin. Not Bosnian, not Croatian.

Can you apostille a Serbian original in Sweden?

No. A document issued in Serbia is apostilled there, often via MSP. Here a Swedish original is apostilled for use in Serbia.
