RGD takes MFA, not an apostille

Ghana is outside the Hague Convention. Swedish originals: notarisation when needed, MFA, then a stamp at the Embassy of Ghana in Stockholm. They legalise documents; a visa is a different queue. English toward RGD, GRA and GTEC: authorized translation from Kammarkollegiet when the original is in Swedish. A power of attorney is attested in Sweden. Documents issued in Ghana are authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Accra.

How it works for Ghana

The Registrar-General’s Department takes birth, marriage and companies under the same roof. GRA issues TIN. NIA issues the Ghana Card. GTEC compares a foreign degree against the Ghanaian system; the old NAB name still appears in older emails but the file goes to GTEC. Lands Commission takes the plot in Accra, Kumasi or Tema. English is official; Swedish originals still need authorized English when RGD or GRA will not read Swedish. Swedish originals go via MFA and the Embassy of Ghana in Stockholm. Documents issued in Ghana are authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Accra. A visa does not stamp the RGD file.

When needed

When do RGD or GTEC want an embassy stamp?

The request sits with the Registrar-General, GRA, GTEC or Lands Commission. Typical files:

RGD must enter a Swedish marriage certificate – the same house as company registration
RGD must issue a company number against a Swedish company extract
GTEC must compare a Swedish degree – not the old NAB track as a separate office
GRA must issue TIN against tax papers
Lands Commission must register a purchase in Accra or Kumasi
A power of attorney so someone can sign at the Registrar-General

A personal extract, a diploma or a company extract in original. RGD and GRA rarely take a screenshot.
3 English toward RGD – official language is not enough on its own

English is official. Swedish originals still need authorized English from Kammarkollegiet when RGD or GRA will not take Swedish.
4 A power of attorney is attested before an agent in Accra signs

If someone in Accra is signing for you, Notarius Publicus attests the power of attorney here. A Ghanaian notary does not stamp that Swedish instrument.

MFA and the Embassy of Ghana in Stockholm legalise Swedish papers. Ghanaian originals are authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Accra. You send to RGD, GRA or GTEC.

No apostille for Ghana

Ghana is not in the Hague Convention. Apostille via Notarius Publicus does not replace MFA and the Embassy of Ghana. Legalisation starts from SEK 2,495 in Basic. The embassy’s own tariff may be added.

Do I need a translation when English is official in Ghana?

Official language does not remove the requirement. RGD and GRA rarely read unprocessed Swedish. Authorized English from Kammarkollegiet plus legalisation is the usual chain.

Is a visa enough instead of legalisation?

No. A visa is entry. RGD, GRA and GTEC want the embassy chain on the document.
