Documents for UAE

Swedish documents for Dubai and Abu Dhabi

Dubai and Abu Dhabi rarely accept Swedish papers with only an apostille. Free zones, banks, HR and residency authorities want originals that went through the Swedish MFA and the UAE Embassy in Stockholm. We build the chain from the recipient checklist, not from a generic Gulf template.

Correct path

Stockholm first, then often MOFA in the UAE

In Sweden: Notary Public when the paper is private, then MFA and the UAE Embassy in Stockholm. In Dubai or Abu Dhabi many recipients then want local MOFA attestation. Arabic is more common for authorities and residency. English sometimes works in DIFC, ADGM and international HR teams.

Overview

How it works for UAE

Swedish diplomas, civil records, powers of attorney and company extracts are used widely in the United Arab Emirates, but they are rarely accepted without the correct legalisation chain. VIZA reviews what a free zone, bank, sponsor or GDRFA actually asks for in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or another emirate. Then we run Notary Public when needed, legalisation at the Swedish MFA and filing at the UAE Embassy in Stockholm. When needed we add Kammarkollegiet approved Arabic translation. The goal is papers that clear both the Stockholm step and what often follows at MOFA in the UAE.

When needed

When do Swedish papers get stuck in Dubai without legalisation?

The requirement almost always comes from the recipient in the Emirates, not from a generic checklist. These are the situations we see most:

  • HR or MoHRE in Dubai wants a legalised diploma and criminal record before a work visa
  • GDRFA or a sponsor asks for legalised civil documents ahead of Emirates ID or a dependent visa
  • DIFC, ADGM, DMCC or JAFZA asks for legalised Swedish company papers and a PRO power of attorney
  • A bank or broker in Marina, Downtown or Abu Dhabi requires a legalised power of attorney for an account or purchase
  • Trade documents go to customs or a customer and need an embassy stamp plus often a certificate of origin
  • A local agent or notary in the UAE refuses Swedish originals without the MFA and embassy chain

From a Swedish document to an accepted UAE chain

The usual chain from review to return. Collapse a step if you want less.

  1. 1 Read the recipient requirements

We start from the free zone portal, bank list or HR email. That decides whether Arabic, English, notarisation or only MFA plus embassy is needed.

  2. 2 Certify private documents

Powers of attorney, copies and company minutes often go via Notary Public first. Public Swedish extracts can sometimes skip that step.

  3. 3 MFA legalisation in Sweden

The Swedish MFA confirms signature and stamp. That is required before the UAE Embassy in Stockholm will accept the case.

  4. 4 UAE Embassy in Stockholm

We file according to embassy instructions. Commercial packs often need invoice and certificate of origin together. Embassy fees are specified before filing.

  5. 5 Return and next step in the UAE

You get the papers back with tracked post. If the recipient then needs MOFA attestation in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, we help you see what is already done in Sweden.

Important

Why an apostille for Dubai usually fails

The United Arab Emirates sits outside the Hague Convention. A Swedish apostille does not replace MFA plus the UAE Embassy. Free zones, banks and residency authorities in Dubai often reject apostille stamped originals. The correct path is therefore certification when needed, MFA legalisation and embassy legalisation in Stockholm. The UAE embassy chain starts from SEK 2,495 in Basic.

Translation, timing and embassy

Arabic or English for the UAE?

Dubai free zones and international HR teams often accept English. Residency, GDRFA and many authority cases want Arabic. The embassy in Stockholm does not always require translation to stamp, but the recipient in the Emirates still might. We translate Swedish to Arabic with a Kammarkollegiet approved translator from SEK 1,495 and can sync it with the embassy chain. Translation plus legalisation package from SEK 3,495.

Timeline: Stockholm vs what happens in the UAE

Our part in Sweden (certification, MFA, embassy) usually takes 8 to 15 business days in Basic. Then the recipient in Dubai may add local MOFA attestation. That affects the total:

  • whether the power of attorney must be notarised in Sweden first
  • MFA queue in Stockholm
  • embassy processing and payment routines
  • whether invoice and certificate of origin must be filed together
  • whether Arabic translation should run in parallel
  • whether the recipient requires an extra MOFA stamp after arrival in the UAE
What the UAE Embassy in Stockholm actually does

The embassy legalises Swedish (and Estonian) documents that have already gone through MFA. That includes civil papers, company documents and commercial packs according to their tariff. We prepare the package, file and return stamped originals. If you then need MOFA in Dubai, that is a separate step in the Emirates.

  • Check against embassy filing requirements
  • Notary Public when the document is private
  • MFA legalisation before the embassy
  • Filing and follow-up at the UAE Embassy
  • Translation to Arabic or English when needed
  • Tracked return to you in Sweden

Questions before you send papers to Dubai

Does an apostille work in Dubai?
No in practice. The UAE is outside the Hague Convention. Free zones and authorities want MFA plus the UAE Embassy, often followed by MOFA in the Emirates.
Is the Stockholm chain enough, or is MOFA in the UAE also needed?
Stockholm gives you embassy legalised Swedish originals. Many recipients in Dubai then want local MOFA attestation. We tell you what is already done when the papers come back.
Which papers belong to free zone setup?
Usually a Companies Registration Office extract, articles of association, board resolution and PRO power of attorney. Sometimes also certified passport copies for directors.
Must invoice and certificate of origin be filed together?
For commercial cases the embassy often wants both. We flag that before filing so the package does not bounce.
English or Arabic?
Free zones and international companies often take English. Residency and several authorities want Arabic. We translate when the recipient list requires it.
How long is your part?
Usually 8 to 15 business days in Basic for certification, MFA and embassy. Priority and VIP shorten our coordination. Local MOFA in the UAE sits outside that time.
Can you fetch Swedish extracts first?
Yes. Personal records, criminal record certificates and company extracts are often ordered before the Dubai chain starts.
What does it cost?
Embassy chain from SEK 2,495, notarisation from SEK 449, Arabic translation from SEK 1,495, package from SEK 3,495. The embassy tariff is specified separately before filing.

Do you have the recipient list from Dubai or Abu Dhabi?

Send the scan or the free zone / HR checklist. We say whether you need certification, MFA, embassy, Arabic or only part of the chain, with a price before start.
