Apostille

Apostille on Swedish documents

Countries in the Hague Convention take an apostille stamp instead of an embassy chain. A Notary Public in Sweden puts the stamp on the original. We book the appointment, file the document and send it back.

We work with leading notary offices in Sweden. When the apostille case is more complicated, for example several documents, a power of attorney, or a country with its own requirements, we take it the whole way.

Common questions about apostille

What is an apostille?
An apostille is a stamp from a Notary Public. It confirms that a Swedish original is genuine, so an authority in a Hague country can accept it. The embassy does not issue that stamp.
Must the document be translated before apostille?
No. The apostille goes on the original. Many recipients also want an authorised translation. That is a separate step, and we can take both in the same case.
How long does an apostille take?
Usually a few business days with the Notary Public. Add time for the post, and for translation if the recipient also requires it.
What if the country does not take apostille?
Then the document goes through the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the country’s embassy. That path is described under legalisation.
